Facts You Need To Know About The Planet Earth || Dream Machine

: : The Secret Ocean

Scientists have discovered a vast reservoir of water located 660 kilometers beneath Earth’s surface. The underground ocean is hidden inside a blue rock called ringwoodite, which acts like a sponge, trapping hydrogen and water.

There’s enough water beneath the Earth’s surface to fill Earth’s ocean over three times. Scientist Steve Jacobson suggests that the Earth’s surface ocean was first formed when trapped water was driven to the surface by geological activity.

If you haven't read our article "Scary Facts About Universe" Click Here to read.

: : Uneven Gravity

Many people assume that gravity is distributed equally on Earth, but there are certain places such as Hudson Bay in Canada, that actually experience less gravity than another region of the globe. In Hudson Bay this occurs because there is only a small amount of landmass, due to retreating glaciers on the surface and swirling magma in the Earth’s core.

: : The Earth Bakery

Over the next 1.1 billion years, scientists predict that the Sun will get progressively brighter and hotter by about 10% compared to now. In 4 billion years our ocean will evaporate, resulting in a runaway greenhouse effect that will send temperatures soaring about 400 0 celsius.

In 7.5 billion years Earth will become a vast desert similar to Mars today and Sun will expand into a red giant.

: : How Did Life On Earth Begin?

There are around 8.7 million different species on Earth, but scientists are still not entirely sure how life on Earth began. Most scientists believe that living things developed from molecules that were able to replicate themselves, rather like DNA does.

These molecules either came from somewhere further outer in space or they were produced by the conditions on Earth at the time.

: : Longer Earth Days

Around 620 million years ago there were only 21.9 hours in a day. Ocean tides generated by the Moon and Sun’s gravity have added 1.7 milliseconds to the length of a day each century, because they alter the planet’s rotational momentum.

The length of the day can also be affected by natural events such as the 2011 earthquake in Japan, which actually shortened the length of each Earth day.

:: Mirror Magnetic Field

The Earth’s magnetic field is becoming less stable. Researchers believe that the planet’s inner core is slowly growing, as the outer core cools and solidifies, resulting in more frequent flips of Earth’s magnetic field. In other words, if the polarity of today’s magnetic field were reversed, the North and South markings on all compasses would be 1800 wrong.

Humans won’t be able to feel any serious problems due to this mirror magnetic effect, but some animals such as whales and pigeons use the Earth’s magnetic field for a sense of direction. So if the reversal occurs in their lifetime, then they might have to develop a different way of navigation.

: : Introduction

A man who can’t walk, a man who can’t talk he can’t even move independently, and yet somehow he still found a way to the universe and its mysterious activities. Dream Machine salutes this physicist whose whole life was dedicated to science and its development. Stephen William Hawking (8 January 1942 – 14 March 2018) was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author, and Director of Research at Centre for Theoretical Cosmology.
If haven't read article about "What Will Happen If Earth Stopped for 40sec?" Click Here to read.

: : Birth & Death of Stephan

Stephan Hawking born on 8th January 1942 which was the 300th anniversary of death of the great scientist Galileo Galilei. When Stephan died (14th Mar) it was the Einstein’s birth day. What a coincidence right? But these things does not stop here, also it was a 30th pi (π) day when he died.

: : He Was on Many TV Shows

He was the repeat guest on The Simpsons according to Hawking his several appearances on the show as himself have many children think that he’s actually a cartoon character. He was also in The Big BangTheory, Futurama and Star Terk

: : Hawking was a Star Rower

While at Oxford a young Stephan Hawking was finding himself bored with classes, in an effort to try something new he joined the school’s boat club, before his illness he was the most important member of his team. His dedication made him very popular with his team and soon his social life was booming with parties and friendly practical joking.

: : He Published a Book for Kids

We all know him as the best-selling author of “ABrief History of Time” & “Theory of Everything”. But in 2007 Stephan and his daughter Lucy collaborated to write “George’s Secret Key to The Universe”. The book is about a young boy George who rebels against his parents aversion to technology.

: : His Friends Nicknamed Him Einstein

Like many of our greatest thinkers school was initially not a great time for Stephan Hawking, in 2010 he literally admitted that he was a lazy student from grade school all the way to his time at Oxford. He didn’t really learn to read until he was 8 years old. Even though his schoolmates nicknamed him Einstein, clearly seeing his potential for greatness, fortunately one math teacher Mr.Tata inspired him to learn math and science.

Stephan Hawking attended an all-girls school for a time, his family moved to st. Albans while his father was working nearby city.

: : He Lost a Bet Against a Physicist

Hawking once lost a bet on Black Holes, he made a bet in 1997 with an American theoretical physicist John Prescott about the informational paradox of Black Holes. Which said nothing can escape from a Black Hole not even information. But he said at the time, information is lost in the Black Hole that eventually evolved later Hawking admitted that he was wrong while giving a lecture at a scientific conference in 2004.

: : He Never Won a Nobel Prize

Stephan Hawking’s name is synonymous with genius his theories have helped advance our understanding of the universe and yet his trophy case is missing one of the highest honors in science. Because Nobel Prizes are reserved for confirmed discoveries and Hawking radiation is still technically theoretical. But he has earned some other great distinctions becoming the Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 1974 and much more.

: : How He Lived So Long With ALS

Stephan Hawking was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease also known as “Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis” or ALS in 1963. The doctors told him that he has only 2 or 3 years to live, ALS did eventually take its toll but not his life he lived over 50 years with that disease but on 14th March 2018 he left his soul and moved towards his universe of dreams.

Only 1 Gram that Costs $25 Billion || Antimatter || Dream Machine

So commonly when we think of the most valuable material in the world, our mind tends to center onto Gold and while gold is very expensive with the current value of $55 per gram. There are other materials that are significantly more expensive. Drugs like Heroine, Cocaine, and LSD are the most expensive drugs in the world by sheer weight. The market value of Diamond per gram is even more prohibitively expensive. But even this is nothing compared to the most valuable material currently known to humanity which is nothing but Antimatter.

If you haven’t read our articles about “What will happen if Earth stopped for 40sec? & much more” Click Here to read.

: : What Is The Antimatter?

Antimatter is the opposite of regular matter. Down at the atomic level, antimatter is made up of particles and atoms just like regular matter. The only thing is they have an opposite electric charge. Whenever antimatter and matter touch one another they instantly annihilate each other in a 100% efficient release of energy. This pure energy release is why antimatter could prove to be extremely useful.

: : How Dangerous & Useful Is Antimatter?

The most efficient nuclear weapons convert a mere 7% to 10% of their mass into energy while antimatter to matter, collision releases 100% of their mass into energy. If you’re carrying a 1 gram of antimatter about the size of a raisin and dropped it on the ground, it would create an explosion greater than both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear explosion combined.

Antimatter is not used only for military or war purposes, beyond that, there are several uses of antimatter. Anti-protons have been also shown in several studies to have the potential to treat certain kinds of cancers.

Antimatter could also be used as a fuel source for interstellar travel. It is conceivable that using antimatter as a fuel source could propel the rocket with humans on board to about 50% of the speed of light (Speed of light is about 3,00,000 km/s),  Which is fast enough to reach the nearest star (Alpha Centauri)  to earth in just a little over two years.

: : Why we haven’t created Antimatter yet?

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) operated by CERN in Switzerland is the world’s biggest and powerful particle accelerator. This collider is capable of producing 10 million antiprotons per minute, I know that sounds like a lot but it is a very tiny amount. To produce just a single gram of antimatter at that rate of production, it would take CERN almost 100 billion years to complete.

The antimatter is incredibly rare, expensive, and difficult to produce. Antimatter is produced naturally in Earth’s outer atmosphere when high-energy cosmic rays impact it, but the amount produced is tiny.

Producing antimatter is only the first problem though, storing it is perhaps an even larger problem because antimatter explodes when it comes in contact with regular matter so you cannot keep it in ordinary container.  You have to keep antimatter without it coming into contact with anything. CERN has only succeeded in storing antimatter atoms for record 17 minutes before they became annihilated.
