NAV used the word NIGGA three times in his album “Perfect Timing”, he got too much backlash for saying that word, and now NAV said that he’s done with that word and won’t be saying it again. NAV explains the whole controversy to Complex in his interview.

Well, it’s like, the neighborhood I grew up in is very multicultural. It goes from Chinese to white to black to Jamaican, everything, right? Everybody uses that word freely. A Chinese guy is saying it to me, I’m saying it to a black guy, a black guy’s saying it to me. It’s all like that. I was making music for me and my friends in the beginning. So I didn’t really think anything of it. But then once I got to the global level and I started seeing a little bit of backlash, I totally cut it out. I respect it. In my neighborhood it’s cool, but out here it’s not cool. So I just play by the rules. [On Perfect Timing], you won’t hear me say it once.

: : Relationship With Uzi, Metro, Weeknd and Meek Mill

>>If you follow NAV and Uzi from the beginning then you obviously know how good friend they are. If not then don’t worry I’m here to help ya out. NAV said this in one of his interviews that, our relationship isn't corny, you know? It's very organic. We met very early in our career. And we don't even really talk to each other like musicians. We talk to each other like friends. We hang out. We don't talk about doing music. We don't even talk about the studio. If it happens, it happens. We'll turn the mic on and it just happens. But we don't book studio a together. Our relationship is very unique. It's different from everybody else that I have relationships with.

#Fun_Fact: The song “Wanted You ft. Lil Uzi Vert” was made in 20 minutes. NAV came out of hotel room and Uzi was waiting for him in the parking lot, they sat in the car and started having a chat and they literally made this song in no time. >>Metro and NAV had a face time and then they met in the studio where they decided to make a project together and that’s how “Perfect Timing” album came. NAV also said that the “Perfect Timing 2” is coming but they haven’t started to work on it.

>>The Weeknd is also a very good friend of NAV they (NAV, Uzi, Weeknd & whole XO crew) play basketball together. Weeknd was fully engaged with NAV’s album “Bad Habits”, he was literally spotting the mistakes like typos and color corrections, even me and cash didn’t even noticed all those things we just looked it and approved it, said NAV.

The song “Price On My Head ft. TheWeeknd” was actually made by 88Glam (Duo signed to XO records). The melody of the song was written by Derek Wise, Weeknd took that melody and put his own words. Later NAV comes for the last verse of the song.
#Fun_Facts: NAV performed first time on stage in O2 Arena in London in front of 20,000 people, it was The Weeknd's tour and NAV had to open it. There was a person from the audience who asked his friend who’s that guy? And NAV heard it and looked into his eyes, NAV was so nervous that he started looking at the sky for real.

>>Meek Mill was the guy who used to post NAV’s lines on Instagram and NAV was not even popping at that time. Even Meek Mill didn’t know that the NAV already produced a song with Drake.

#Fun_Fact: NAV in his interview with Complex. { The line from song TAP, "The first time I've seen a Maybach was with cuz," referring to Meek. That's a fact because when I and Bucks went to Atlanta for the first time, we were kind of just out there figuring it out and we hadn't got a car. He's good friends with Meek, so we went to Meek's house. He let us in his house and everything. We were chilling. We needed a car and he gave us his Maybach, and I've never been to a Maybach. He gave us the Maybach and he said, "We can't find the keys. The key's been lost for weeks in the car. But you could just press start and it'll work." That line is a fact. And "the first one to show me love" is really back when I was coming up before Cash (his manager) had even met me. }

Facts You Need To Know If You're Fan of Naezy & DIVINE || Gully Boy Facts || Ranveer Singh || Naezy || DIVINE || Dream Machine

: : Basic Info

The film Gully Boy is inspired by Mumbai’s 2 rappers Naved Sheikh aka Naezy and Vivian Fernandez aka DIVINE.  The lead actors in the film are Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt & Siddhant Chaturvedi. Divine came up with many hits like Kaam 25, Farak and Jungli Sher whereas Naezy has only two songs on the top spot such as  Aafat & Asal Hustle but these two songs were enough to make a movie based on him alone.
: : Process of Gully Boy How & Gully Boy Was Made?

The director of the film Zoya Akhtar is a big fan of western hip-hop until she encountered Naezy’s song Aafat. After listening to Naezy she had to meet him anyhow because he had authenticity in his lyrics and Zoya wanted to know who that guy is.

After listening Naezy and DIVINE’s real-life story and how they grew up in slums and made on top, Zoya was interested to make a movie based on their life. Zoya was hanging out with these people for more than 2 years just to know about their lifestyle and underground hip-hop culture.

: : Casting of Ranveer as Murad and Siddhant as Mc Sher

>> Zoya was looking for an actor who can do rap in real life because she wanted to cast an actor that can do rap in her movie too to keep it real and authentic.

>> Ranveer Singh was into rap since he was a child and he was the only one who could do that role. He had that energy and authenticity about hip-hop. Ranveer gave his vocals on songs like “Asli Hip Hop”, “Apna Time Ayega”, ”Mere Gully Mein”, ”Doori”, ”Ek Hee Rastaa” and “Kab Tak Se Kab Tak”.
Fun Fact:- Ranveer already did rap in Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl movie, Jack & Jones commercial and in Ching’s commercial.

>>Zoya saw dancing Siddhant in a party and asked him to act in her movie, and Siddhant replied “you know why I was dancing? Just to gain your attention so that I can be useful for you and you called me immediately”. Well, it was a very smart move by Sidhhant.

>> Zoya asked him to prepare 2-3 songs of Naezy and DIVINE for audition of Gully Boy’s Mc Sher character and Sidhhant heard them for the first time and it was very difficult to memorize their lyrics, but somewhere he was relating his life to their songs and within one night he wrote 6 songs about his life and struggle and got selected in one take.

: : Sabka Apna Time Ayega

DIVINE had an original song named Sabka Time Ayega, Zoya liked the track and wanted it to be the part of her movie. Zoya asked DIVINE to change some of his lyrics according to the movie’s storyline, DIVINE kept the title for his song as Sabka Time Ayega.

But Zoya Akhtar’s dad Javed Akhtar(Bollywood’s well known and best lyricist) changed the title from Sabka Time Ayega to Apna Time Ayega. They changed the title because Apna is referred to personal/individual so that track could be more relatable to the audience and Apna Time Ayega really blew up touched the sky.

: : Vivian Fernandez aka DIVINE

>>Vivian opted his stage name as DIVINE because he used to go church with his grandma when he was a kid. After writing some songs he felt that church vibe/positivity and opted his stage name as DIVINE.
>>DIVINE’s father was an alcoholic and used to beat him and his mother, one day his father sold their house and told them to get a new life and give them half of the money and never came back into their life again.

To restart their journey of life, DIVINE’s mother and his elder brother moved to abroad for the job so that DIVINE and his grandma could live peacefully in Mumbai.

>>DIVINE was introduced to rap when he was in college and he saw 50 Cent’s photo on his friend’s t-shirt. His friend gave him basic info about 50 Cent and gave CD full of 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Big Sean’s songs.

DIVINE didn’t understand what these rappers are talking about but he used to listen to them for 3-4 hours a day in a loop. To find the lyrics of these songs he used to go to cyber café to take prints of lyrics and memorize them later.

>>After listening to them DIVINE started making his own songs and released his first song Voice of The Streets on YouTube. His first song didn’t give him recognition as he wanted so he made his second song in Hindi named Yeh Mera Bombay and it went viral within a couple of months and won an award for Best Music Video of The Year from Rolling Stones. (From that song I started following divine and it is one of my favorite songs).

Fun Fact:- Actually it is not his first song, he made many songs before Voice of The Streets but deleted later because he thought his current fans couldn’t take those songs(they were worse).

>>Later DIVINE was signed to Sony Music record label and made 3 hit songs such as Jungli Sher, Farak and Mere Gully Mein.  These three songs gave him recognition and stable life and DIVINE brought his mother from Dubai to Mumbai and told her to leave the job because her son will be paying their bills from now and will keep her happy.

: : Naved Sheikh aka Naezy

>> Naved was the crazy guy since he was a kid, his dad used to work in Dubai and Naved and his mom was living in Kurla, Mumbai. Due to his wrong friend circle Naved was crossing borders and was out of his mother’s hand, he used to do things like stealing tennis balls from the shops, breaking neighbor house’s windows, teasing people for no reason and things like that.

Due to his bad behavior, Naved was locked up in jail for a while and released on bail. His uncle helped him to get out of jail. Later they moved to another area where Naved can have better friends.
>>After moving to another place, Naved realized that everything he did was very disappointing and now he has to be on the right path. He started rapping when he was studying in college and opted his stage name as NAEZY because everyone used to call him “NAved is craZY” so it became NAEZY.

>>While studying in college his dad gifted him an iPad and he started recording his music on iPad’s mic. To reduce the noise pollution he used a tea strainer and shot his first video song Afat from that iPad.
>>After releasing big tracks like “Asal Hustle” & “Mere Gully Mein ft. DIVINE”, he literally left the rap for one whole year and was inactive on social media too. But finally, he returned to his kingdom where he belongs and came up with tracks like “Bombay 70” & “NY Se Mumbai ft. NAS & DIVINE”.
